A patient presents to the ER complaining of amenorrhea, lower abdominal pain, and vaginal bleeding. The pregnancy test is positive. Vital signs are stable. Physical examination reveals a uterus that is small for gestational age, closed cervix, and bleeding. No adnexal mass is palpated. Transvaginal ultrasound fails to reveal an intrauterine pregnancy.
